Tired of Getting Shellacked?

Close to the main entrance to Shangri-La, but tucked slightly out of the way, in a nice, cool, tree-shaded spot, you will find the Grammophon Salon. If the prospect of a relaxed, genteel pit-stop from the Festival's non-stop madness appeals, then you would do well to check it out.

Take your seat at one of the parasol-topped tables, and a bevy of lovely, kimonoed Japanese girls will serve you green tea while playing you proper old 78rpm shellac records on wind-up gramophones.

It's one of those little oases on the site which you approach thinking you'll sit and chill for 20 minutes or so and end up staying for hours. And such places, when you manage to find them at Glastonbury, can only be treasured. It's the brainchild of Glastonbury stalwart Steve King, one of those classic unsung Festival heroes, who always puts vast amounts of effort into devising something unique, quirky and pleasurable for the punters.
